Typically the 5th Team gets to play its matches as the light begins to fade, so it was honoured with a noon push-back at home against Derwent 5 today. The opposition are currently second in the league, so here was a great chance to do the 4th Team a favour. We had 6 great juniors on display, and just 11 of us in total, but were all very up for the challenge.
It looked as if they’d open the scoring when awarded a penalty flick, but our keeper successfully defended his first ever competitive flick. We then went 1-0 up, but the score was quickly levelled by the most stunning goal of the match – as an inadvertent defender deflection neatly lobbed the keeper. We went 2-1 up before half time and things were looking good, but then they levelled again. With the last hit of the match they scored a third, and so we lost 3-2.
Despite all that, it was great match to watch and play in. Our team played well and enjoyed themselves, but taking no points was disappointing. Impartial observers thought a draw would not have been unfair.
MotM was awarded for Goalkeeping duties, particularly saving the penalty flick. DotD went to Nick’s socks!
Thanks to Simeon and Jake for umpiring.
