If matches were won on short corners, then the 5th Team would have won 11-3 away at Buxton today! The opposition might have thought they’d come for a Badgers match as we’d just three over-18s, but we had the pace and youth that allowed to dominate for a long period in the second half.
We lost the game 3-0, one goal towards the end of the first half and two from the very experienced player that came on to transform their strike force in the second half. We did have plenty of chances, both on-target and marginally wide, but not the experience of playing together (or practising short corners) that allowed us to capitalise,
A great contribution from those making their first senior experience, and a delight to see Ben and Ryan team up in the centre of midfield. Ben got MotM and Dillon was recognised for the Performance of the Day.
Plenty of goalmouth action at our end, including a goal-line stick-sweep that briefly demoralised the opposition.
So not quite the performance to reproduce our famous win in this fixture last year (it was our first away win of the season, which we achieved with just 9 players), but a great game – well-played, entertaining to watch and a good indication that we’ve a competitive 5th team for the coming season.
